What is the Secret to Making People Smile?

Even toddlers and preschoolers can learn how to positively affect others: by sharing and caring.  The abstract concept of caring can (and should!) be simplified and presented to children in ways that are related to their everyday lives in order to make it more concrete.  One book that does a wonderful job at this is Emily's Sharing and Caring Book.

Emily's Sharing and Caring Book tells about a girl who has the secret to making people smile - by sharing and caring! Sharing is described as taking turns, sharing toys or food, sharing time or a good mood. Caring is described as thinking about others and what you can do to make them feel good, such as by showing care when they are hurt or sad. The key message is at the end, though; "The real secret about sharing and caring is that they can do more than make others smile. They can make you smile, too. Sharing and caring make everyone happy." This very simple book has a strong message, with clear illustrations and examples from daily life. It is a great introduction to the basic foundations for building strong relationships.
