TEACH AND LEARN!
Parents obviously have a lot to teach to children, from how to speak, to how to read, to how to behave. But what we tend to forget is how much we learn from our kids. Even before they are born, we teach ourselves everything there is to be learned about the healthiest nourishment, the best books and toys, the safest bedding, the most comfortable clothing, and on and on and on. Once they are born, they teach us valuable life lessons of patience, sacrifice, and unconditional love. We never imagined before holding our babies that we were capable of staying up all night and rocking a colicky child!
This TEACH AND LEARN role is the foundation of parenting. Being conscious of the fact that we learn from our children while we teach them will make us better listeners and hence better parents. Listen to their thoughts and tune in to their feelings, just as we would like them to listen to us and respect our feelings.
This type of simple, conscious parenting sets the tone for love, laughter and lots of happiness! That's exactly what every parent wishes for ........ for themselves and for their children!
LOVE AND LAUGH!
Love should be the basis of all parenting decisions we make, especially when practicing discipline. This will remind us to be kind when we are right. Holding this feeling of love softens our tone of voice and our gaze; it keeps our body relaxed, and keeps our minds and our hearts open!
With open minds and open hearts, we can teach our children, by example, to be light hearted. Add an element of fun and enjoyment in every message that you are sending to your kids. Kids are simple; keep parenting simple! Laugh, tickle them, teach them happiness by being happy yourselves. Make it a practice to laugh out loud at least once a day. It will make you a more effective parent while raising happy children.
THINK AND ACT!
Open minds and open hearts will also lead to better decision making and will encourage your child to be more "RESPONSE-ABLE", to think before they act.
It is up to us to empower them to make good decisions, to build their self-esteem and self-confidence, and to set the stage for "response-able" teenagers and adults.
We can teach them to be loving, happy, and caring kids!
